i have an encompassing love sourced from an ardent passion for photographic processes. the birthing from the intercourse of my lenses and that of the equipment, to me, is a consistent source of magic in all of its honest, manipulable, fortuitous, designed; vibrant, black and white, saturated, vignetted, sepia-toned, digital, silver and printed (on virtually any material) glory.

i love the camera itself: powered up and/or fully loaded. it's weight, display of functions, varied styles, protocols, mechanisms, models, lesne capacity, image capacity, even film-type capacity. i love it all almost equally to that which it produces.

the idea of light and shadow, subject-object relationships and the art of printing perpetually intrigue, inspire, challenge and seduce me. while i consider myself to be a novice (albeit a compulsive one) photographer, sometimes i go into periods of quiescently when all i can do is use my own lenses and consume images captured by others.... if you have ever laid your eyes on this blog you are probably privy to all of this by sheer inference.

today liam digitally introduced me to the works of irina werning. a bueno aires photographer who has, inspired by old photos and particularly the subject's expressions, conveyed emotions and the time-aesthetics of the pieces of history, decided to embark on an ongoing project where she took an old photograph of someone (sometimes, more than one) and recreated the image with every last detail taken into consideration. through meticulous styling, direction, coloring and conjuring up of emotions for the perfect nostalgia-laced pose, irina hopes to evoke the feelings experienced and encapsulated in the original. the results are light and heartwarming. perfect for a cold, dismal night.

i am captivated by what presents itself to multiple lenses and create from that which is expounded and drawn from the melodies in ongoing symphonic contradictions.

i am learning to measure twice, cut once.
